Hotel Rosaleo

Moving in an anti-clockwise direction, Casamicciola Terme  is right next to Ischia Porto and has been the most famous commune since ancient times due to its precious thermal springs. Both the Greeks and later the Romans were regular customers and convinced of the therapeutic properties of these waters. In time, scientific studies also confirmed their effectiveness in the treatment of various pathologies, identifying specific chemical components in each spring. Heading towards Casamicciola from the sea, you can admire the view of the commune set in vast green open spaces of rare beauty, including the Maddalena Woods, one of the island’s most beautiful pine groves. From here you can go on enchanting nature walks along paths and routes that lead as far as the Dead Crater of Mount Rotaro. Apart from the typical Mediterranean scrub, you’ll also find two botanical rarities: Cyperus polystachiyus (the papyrus plant that grows on the fumaroles) and Pteris Vittata (a special fern species extinct in the rest of Europe). Their survival is guaranteed by the heat that flows out of the still active fumaroles in the ancient volcanic craters of Rotaro and Fondo D’Oglio.

Moreover, the Commune of Casamicciola offers various places of cultural interest, such as

  • the civic museum,
  • the 1885 geophysical observatory on the hill known as Gran Sentinella,
  • the Bellavista Public Gardens,
  • the Church of Santa Maria Maddalena Penitente (where you can admire statues dating back to the 18th century),
  • the Church of Santa Maria della Pietà, (which safeguards Andrea Vaccaio’s beautiful “Pietà”), etc.

Finally, don’t forget that Casamicciola also boasts its own tourist harbour, from where you can embark on countless boat trips and excursions.
